How to Reset Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights
Before you factory reset anything, know that most Govee permanent lighting complaints we get called out for are not a broken controller. They are power, the wrong Wi-Fi band, or a light count that no longer matches the run. Work through it in this order.
Check these first
- Power. Confirm the outlet is live and the GFCI has not tripped. Outdoor GFCIs trip after a hard rain more often than people expect.
- Connections. Look at the plug where the strand meets the power supply and where each section starts. Moisture and a half-seated connector look identical from the ground.
- Light count. If effects die partway across the house, the app count is too low. That is a setting, not a fault.
Soft reset
Unplug the power supply at the outlet, wait 30 seconds, plug it back in. This clears most freezes, stuck scenes, and offline controllers, and it keeps every scene and schedule you built.
App reset
If the lights respond to power but not the app, remove the device from Govee Home and add it back. This rebuilds the pairing without wiping the controller. Keep your phone on the 2.4 GHz network while you do it.
Factory reset
Last resort. Hold the reset button on the controller until the lights flash to confirm. This wipes scenes, schedules, segments, and the Wi-Fi pairing and returns the controller to out-of-box state. Afterward you re-pair, re-enter the correct light count, re-zone the house, and rebuild your scenes, so only do this if the controller will not respond at all.
What a reset will not fix
| Symptom | Likely real cause |
|---|---|
| One puck dark, rest fine | Failed puck, replace under warranty |
| Everything after one point is dark | Bad connection or a cut in the run |
| Lights sagging or hanging loose | Adhesive mounts letting go, needs proper clips |
| Reconnects then drops nightly | Weak Wi-Fi signal at the controller location |
That third row is worth pausing on. The adhesive mounts in the box do not hold up to Capital Region freeze and thaw, which is why we install Govee Pro on our own custom 3D printed clips instead.
